Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

NCDC is the nation’s leading public health agency, dedicated to saving lives and protecting the health of Nigerians. NCDC like all agencies is bound by the Freedom of Information Act 2011 hereinafter referred to as (FOI-ACT) ensures that all its research activities and its employees comply with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, regulations, and policies in order to exercise the highest level of transparency and compliance with the FOI Act. At the core of this mission is information sharing, not just health information and disease study results, but information NCDC gathers as part of a continuous process of putting information into action.

Like all federal agencies, NCDC is required to disclose records requested in writing by any person unless the records (or a part of the records) are protected as contained in the law. This site provides information about the NCDC FOI Act Office program and how to access NCDC records.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE FOI ACT AND PROCEDURE

The Freedom of information Act is an Act that gives a person, group, association, or organization the right to access information from Government agencies, parastatals, Federal Civil services, private and public sector organisations providing public services etc.

The purpose of the FOI Act is to make public records and information more freely available, provide for public access to public records and information, protect public records and information to the extent consistent with the public interest and the protection of personal privacy, protect serving public officers from adverse consequences of disclosing certain kinds of official information without authorization and establish procedures for the achievement of those purposes and for related matters.

WHO CAN DEMAND INFORMATION FROM US

The Act gave individuals the right to information under this Act and the right to institute proceedings in the Court to compel any public institution to comply with the provisions of the Act.

HOW TO DEMAND INFORMATION FROM US

To get information under the FOI Act, a request must be made by email or by letter in written form, describing the information sought for, and the preferred form.
